Web Development

Since 2007, I've focused my work within the web industry as a front-end designer and developer. A few of my technical skills include:

  • W3C standards-based development
  • Hand-coded, structural/semantic XHTML markup
  • Light scripting/adaptation of JSP & PHP includes
  • Information architecture based on SEO
  • CSS-based page design
  • Accessibility & usability
  • Design for the web
  • Creating clear UI and an effective UX
  • Ecommerce SMT (Miva)
  • Email & Newsletter coding

Client Side Coding

My specialization with hand-coding (X)HTML began about 2002 at a startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. I moved from project management to join the engineering team when folks discovered I could both design and code our application's interface. At that time, the race for internet market shares lead to fast and furious design and programming; a practice that often mixed presentation and programming code on the same page — and a technical challenge for me as a new front-end coder.

With this history, it's no wonder I'm a great fan of separating a strong structural/semantic XHTML markup foundation from the CSS presentation layer, and both from the behavior and programming controls.

Web Design

Featured Project:
Email Marketing & Major Maintenance

I worked for this client as a web project manager, regular maintenance developer, and also coding more involved section additions, and developing an entire weekly email coding process.

Their in-house designer provided many unique print-like looks, both for the email marketing and the web site.
